Calum's Way ~ Film

The incredible true story of a man’s determination to build a two-and-a-half-mile road through steep granite terrain on a remote Scottish island, where he was isolated with his family. The local council had refused many times to pay for the construction of such “an impossible road”, so Calum – lighthouse keeper and farmer – took it upon himself, all the while keeping both his day and night jobs. He was 72 years old when he completed the project, and now the Post could finally be delivered to his door. 

He wore out five wheelbarrows, seven pickaxes, and five hammers. Ten of the twenty years it took to build the road, he suffered from an untreated broken hip. Calum and his wife Lexie were the only people left at the end of the road when he finished it in 1988.

This is a film about the harsh realities of survival and ultimately, the importance of love, honour, and sacrifice.
